AeroShell Oil 80 Aircraft Engine Oil 1 Quart
Specially developed for aircraft piston engine break-in. AeroShell Oil 80 is a premium SAE 40 straight mineral aviation oil intended for suitable aircraft piston engines, particularly during the initial operating period following engine manufacture or overhaul.
Its non-dispersant formulation makes it different from the AeroShell W-series ashless dispersant oils.
Designed for Engine Break-In
Newly manufactured and recently overhauled aircraft piston engines may require a specific break-in procedure to ensure proper seating of piston rings against cylinder walls.
During this process, some engine manufacturers specify the use of straight mineral oil without dispersant additives.
AeroShell Oil 80 is developed for these applications when the engine manufacturer or overhaul facility specifies an appropriate SAE 40 mineral break-in oil.
The required break-in duration, operating procedures and oil recommendations vary between engines and must always follow the applicable manufacturer instructions.
Straight Mineral Oil Without Dispersant Additives
AeroShell Oil 80 uses a straight mineral formulation without ashless dispersant additives.
According to Shell, the oil contains no additives other than a small quantity of pour-point depressant and antioxidant.
This formulation distinguishes it from conventional AeroShell W-series oils designed for applications requiring ashless dispersant technology.
SAE 40 for Cooler Operating Conditions
AeroShell Oil 80 has SAE 40 single-grade viscosity.
Shell identifies an ambient air temperature range of approximately -17°C to +21°C for this product.
Its lower viscosity compared with AeroShell Oil 100 supports lubrication and oil flow in cooler climates.
The correct viscosity must always be selected according to the engine manufacturer's requirements.
AeroShell Oil 80 Compared with AeroShell Oil W80
Although both oils have SAE 40 viscosity, they are not identical products.
AeroShell Oil 80: Straight mineral aviation oil without ashless dispersant additives, primarily intended for approved engine break-in procedures.
AeroShell Oil W80: Ashless dispersant aviation engine oil for approved applications requiring this additive technology.
Do not substitute one oil for the other without confirming the applicable engine manufacturer's recommendations.
Applications
AeroShell Oil 80 is intended for approved applications in certified four-stroke reciprocating aircraft piston engines and certain radial engines requiring SAE J1966 oil without dispersant additives.
Shell excludes Porsche aircraft engines from its general application statement.
The oil is primarily used during the break-in period of new or recently overhauled aviation piston engines.

Important Application Information
Use AeroShell Oil 80 only where the engine manufacturer or overhaul facility permits the corresponding oil type, viscosity and specification.
Break-in procedures, operating power settings and oil change requirements vary by engine. Always follow the current instructions provided by the engine manufacturer or overhaul facility.
Not every new or overhauled engine requires straight mineral oil. The correct lubricant must be determined from the applicable technical documentation.
Dispose of used oil through an authorised collection facility. Never discharge lubricants into drains, soil or water.
