After three years of development, the project ADS-B Vision Switzerland has reached a major milestone:
The first ground station in Falkenfluh (BE) has entered operational testing.

Launched by the Aeroclub of Switzerland and supported by the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) and several sponsors, the project aims to significantly enhance Swiss airspace safety.

The project’s vision:
Real-time weather and traffic information – free of charge – directly to the cockpit.

Via the ADS-B UAT frequency (978 MHz), pilots can receive METAR, TAF, weather radar and traffic information (TIS-B & FIS-B) using mobile receivers or modern avionics. A corresponding NOTAM has already been issued.

The next project stage includes the installation of five additional ground stations to ensure country-wide coverage. The data services will be expanded continuously, including Winds Aloft and additional aviation information.

With this approach, Switzerland has the chance to take a leading international role. For the first time, diverse sources such as ADS-B, Mode-S, Mode-C, FLARM, SafeSky or ADS-L could be integrated into a single cockpit data stream – benefiting airline pilots as well as drone operators.

Project initiator Eugen Stieger (AeCS) calls it one of the most important advances in Swiss airspace safety – simple, efficient and without bureaucracy.
